Garbage management stops again in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, April 29: Garbage management in Kathmandu Valley has been stopped again due to obstruction of locals on Pasang Lhamu Highway.

Citizens of the Kathmandu Valley have been directly affected by the constant obstruction of work by the contractor in charge of maintenance. Garbage management work of 18 local levels of Kathmandu Valley has been stopped. Garbage has been blocked on the road for the past six days due to obstruction by the residents of the Highway saying that the road leading to Sisdol in Nuwakot has not been repaired in time.

Sarita Rai, chief of the Campa Environment Department, said that the problem has arisen time and again due to lack of long-term solution for the disposal of garbage at 18 local levels. According to him, the road started in 2070 BS has not been completed so far and the locals have been obstructing the garbage disposal due to repeated obstructions.

“The central government should be sensitive to such issues,” said Rai. CAMPA has been saying that the problem has arisen due to non-completion of the long-term waste management site at Bancharedanda, two kilometers away from the place where garbage is being managed.

As the rainy season waste management is going to be a big problem.
